1. Pastor’s Thoughts:

Well, we missed the ice storm that caught the northern part of Arkansas and many other states.  There are so many still without power and it may be days before full power is restored.  What a tragedy!

This week I have been reading about a volcanic mountain in Alaska, Mount Redoubt, that is about ready to erupt.  Here are some concerns that were mentioned in the article I read: “Particulate released during an eruption has jagged edges and can injure skin, eyes and breathing passages, especially in young children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems.

It can also foul engines. An eruption in December 1989 sent out an ash cloud 150 miles that flamed out the jet engines of a KLM flight carrying 231 passengers on its way to Anchorage. The jet dropped more than two miles before pilots were able to restart the engines and land safely.

A week ago, the observatory detected a sharp increase in earthquake activity below the volcano and upgraded its alert level to orange, the stage just before full eruption. The warning that an eruption was imminent caused a rush on dust masks and car air filters in Anchorage.” I am constantly amazed when I read about the “weird” weather hitting, not only the United States, but the world.  I wonder, do you think planet earth may be readying itself for the seven year period known as “The Great Tribulation?” Jesus said, "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh" (Luke 21:28).  The major question to each of us is: “Do I have an up-to-date personal relationship with the Lord?”  If not, follow what I John 1:9 and Romans 10:9 and 10:13 tell us.  If yes, then, who do we know that doesn’t have an up-to-date personal relationship with the Lord?   If ever there was a time to “talk about Jesus” it is today.  I challenge you to ask at least one person, “Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?”

2. Laugh a little:

A famous author was autographing copies of his new novel in a department store. One gentleman pleased him by bringing up not only his new book for signature, but two of his previous ones, as well. “My wife likes your stuff," he remarked apologetically, "so I thought I'd give her these signed copies for a birthday present.” “A surprise, eh?" hazarded the author. “I’ll say," agreed the customer. "She's expecting a Mercedes."

-----

A young man stood up to preach his first sermon. He was so frightened that he could hardly speak, but he had written a good, long sermon, so he just kept plodding on through it. "Speak up!" a man yelled from the back of the church. "We can't HEAR you back here!" The young man tried to preach louder, but in a little while the man called out again, "We can't HEAR you!" The young man tried a little harder, but he became more frightened by the minute. Finally, the man at the back stood up and
shouted: "We can't hear a thing you're SAYING!" Another churchgoer in the front pew stood up, turned around, and said, "What are you COMPLAINING about? Just sit down and thank God, or I'll change PLACES with you!"

-----

A mature-looking lady had an appointment with a marriage counselor, and told him flat out: "I would like to divorce my husband." To this, the counselor replied, "Well, do you have any grounds?" She answered, "Why yes. We have almost an acre." The puzzled counselor asked her, "You don't understand. What I want to know is do you and your husband have a grudge?" The lady answered, "Actually, we don't, but we do have a nice carport." At this, the counselor shook his head and said, "Ma'am, I'm sorry, but I just don't see any reason why you should divorce your husband." The lady looked at the counselor and said to him, "It's just that the man can't carry on an intelligent conversation."

3. Thought for the month:

“This life is yours. Take the power to choose what you want to do and do it well. Take the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly. Take the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature.
Take the power to control your own life. No one else can do it for you.
Take the power to make your life happy.” --Susan Polis Schutz

4. Helpful websites:

Have you ever wondered about “How stuff works?”  I have on many occasions, especially when the product didn’t do what it was supposed to.  Here is a good website that I think you will find beneficial.  It is called “How Stuff Works! http://www.howstuffworks.com/

6. Rose Hill News:

Seems like the Christmas season was just a week or so ago, and now Easter is on the horizon.  Donna Jordan introduced the Easter Cantata to the choir last Wednesday night.  Can time possibly go any faster than it has been?

The annual choir chili lunch followed by a pie auction will be held on Sunday, February 22nd.  Donations will be accepted for the lunch.

The monthly Sunday School breakfasts started the first Sunday in February at 8:30AM.  They will continue on the first Sunday of the months of March and April.  Sam, Ron and Belinda have been putting out some first rate breakfast meals.  Be sure and try them out.

The Kingdom’s Kids department has made delicious candy for a fund raiser and is now offering it on Sunday mornings.  Be sure and see Cynthia or Belinda to purchase yours.

The Sunday School will sponsor a catered “Sunday School Teacher Appreciation banquet” on Monday, February 16th at 6:30 PM.  There is no charge for teachers or assistant teachers. There will be a minimal charge for others.  Ruth Carney will be the guest speaker.  Please let Faith, Pastor or Belinda know if you plan on attending by Wednesday, February 11th.

Rose Hill birthdays for February include: Brenda Prater (4th), Bonnie Bratton (8th), Rance Curtis (11th), Maggie Morris (12th), and Dylan Case (19th).  Anniversaries include: Elvis & Betty Christian (11th).

Many of our church family have been down sick these last couple of weeks.  I want to encourage you to send a card, make a phone call, or make a personal visit.  Let’s lift these folks up in our prayers.  “We really do need each other!”

Ladies, don’t forget the Tuesday Bible Study at 10:00AM and likewise, men, don’t forget the Men’s Prayer Breakfast scheduled for the 3rd Saturday of each month at 8:00 AM
