1. Pastor’s Thoughts

June was a busy but enjoyable month for Rose Hill.   We started out with Faith Promise on June 13th.  Our attendance was 66 that day and our Faith Promise goal was $14,000.  At the end of the service the gracious people of Rose Hill pledged $18,084 for World Missions.  Belinda did a mini-faith promise session with our children and they pledged $176.00 of our $18,084.  What a wonderful church Faith and I have the privilege to serve!  You are the best!  Then we had a wonderful Father’s Day celebration on June 20th.  6 happy fathers received gift certificates to the Dixie Cafe.  Then Donna led a choir loft full of fathers in a wonderful hymn.  What an awesome choir!  Our DS and wife, Dr. Russell and Gail Branstetter paid a surprise visit too!

June 27th was our homecoming.  We had 81 in attendance and we had a full schedule:  The Sunday School awarded Riley Gill with the Second Mile Award; NMI President, Carolyn Mann, presented Rusty and Carrie Overton with Memorial Certificates of their father, Roger; we baptized two:  Hunter Montgomery and Kathy Blue.  We had a wonderful praise and worship time, including two choir specials, a “short” sermon on Coming Home and then dinner on the grounds.  Cooks, Ron and Billy grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and our Rose Hill cooks brought in their favorite picnic dishes.  Ron, Belinda, Charles, OD and Sam put up a large tarp that helped Sunday not be so hot.

I want to say a special thanks to Ron and Belinda and those who helped moving tables and chairs in and out and setting up and taking it all down.  It was a great day!  And…June was a great month in the midst of a great people!

2. Laugh a little

Two painters had been painting houses for over a year, and it was going too slow, and they were very frustrated. One day one of the painters came up to the other and said." You know, I’ve been thinkin, we really haven't accomplished much in a year's work, and it's just going too darn slow. I have an idea. How about we thin our paint out with water, and that way it will go faster and farther.” Sounds like a good idea to me”, said the other. So, they went on like this for another year or so, when one day one of the painters came to the other and said." I have been feeling very convicted about what we're doing, and I think we should repaint all the houses that we thinned out with water." "All the houses!” said the other.” Are you crazy?" Why the sudden conviction?" "Well,” the painter replied.” Last night I was sleeping soundly, when all of a sudden I was awakened by this nine foot angel standing by the foot of my bed. I was so scared, I couldn't speak. But the angel, He pointed one giant finger at me and said,” Repaint you thinner, and go and thin no more."

The preacher was wired for sound with a lapel mike, and as he preached, he moved briskly about the platform, jerking the mike cord as he went.
Then he moved to one side, getting wound up in the cord and nearly
tripping before jerking it again. After several circles and jerks, a little girl in the third pew leaned toward her mother and whispered, "If he gets loose, will he hurt us?"

A cattleman from West Texas died & went on to the Great Beyond. As he approached the great gate, he noticed that the terrain was bare with no greenery. He remarked to the gate keeper, "Howdy Saint Peter. Say, this looks just like Texas."
The gatekeeper replied, "First of all, I'm not Saint Peter
and second, you really don't know where you are at all, do you?”

3. Thought for the month

Thoughts, and words that spring from them, bend the individual’s reality. To speak of death is to invite it. To think of sorrow is to produce it.”

As I write this I ask you to remember our associate pastor, Greg Hayes, in prayer.  He has been diagnosed with a mass on his colon.  He will be having surgery at Baptist Hospital Friday morning (July 2nd).

Our music minister, Donna Jordan, plans on being with Diana and Matthew to welcome her new grandchild into this world.

A brand new Christian school, Pinnacle Classical Academy (PCA) will be renting some of our Sunday School rooms starting July 1st.  The school is brand new and will include grades kindergarten through fifth grade.  Your church board met with PCA’s board and had a good time of fellowship, questions and answers.  We are very impressed with this group of young people and believe they will be a help to us and us to them.  Actual classes won’t start until the middle of August, but our lease starts with them effective July 1st.  So don’t be alarmed if you see some new faces in the education unit.

The NMI District convention starts July 5th, Monday evening, at 7PM, at Little Rock First Church of the Nazarene.  Sunday School convention will start Tuesday at 1:30 PM and our District Assembly will start on Wednesday at 8:30 AM.  Our general superintendent is Dr. Stan Toler.  In my opinion, he is one of the best!  Come and be a part of our conventions and assembly.  Please note that we will not have small groups on Monday, July 5th or Thursday, July 8th and we will transfer our Wednesday evening service to Little Rock First for the District Assembly ordination service.  If you have never been to an ordination service, come and be a part of one of the most important services the Church of the Nazarene has.

The ladies meet for a Bible study on Tuesdays at 10AM.  Please note that they will not meet on July 6th due to the conventions.  Men’s Prayer Breakfast is Saturday, on the 17th at 8:00 AM

Prime Timers meet on the first and third Thursdays at noon for a potluck lunch and a time of fellowship.  If you are over 55 you are invited to come and be a part of this group.

Rose Hill birthdays for July include: Larry Furrer & Ed Rice (1st), Carolyn Mann (3rd), Jarron Burnett (9th), and Billy Douglass (19th)

Rose Hill anniversaries for July include: Scott & Brenda Prater (7th) and Bobby & Donna Jordan (15th)
