Herald From: Steve Comeans spcomeans@rosehillnazarene.org A publication of June 1, 2009 Volume 2, Issue 6 1. Pastor’s thoughts 2. Laugh a little 3. Thought for the month 4. Helpful websites 5. Nazarene websites 6. Rose Hill news 1. Pastor’s
thoughts: Another Memorial Day has come and gone. As you know,
Memorial Day is the day when Americans across the globe, pause and give tribute
to the men and women who have given their lives so that you and I may enjoy the
freedoms we have. If you weren’t in church this past Sunday you missed a
wonderful service of paying tribute to our veterans. The music was fantastic
and there was a very patriotic theme and feeling in our congregation. We ended
our service with a video on our national cemetery 2. Laugh a
little: Lost on his way to speak at a church, Bishop Fulton Sheen asked a little boy to help him find it. The little boy asked him why he was going to church. “To speak,” Sheen told him. “What about?” the boy wanted to know. “I’m going to tell people how to get to heaven,” he replied. The little boy laughed and when the bishop asked him what was so funny, said, “You’re going to tell them how to get to heaven when you can’t even find the church.” A young man brought his wife to a small town doctor’s office in an emergency. The nurses escorted the woman to the examination area, and the husband anxiously took a seat in the lobby. For the next few minutes, he could hear the doctor bark an unsettling string of orders to the staff. First it was “Knife!” Then “Screwdriver!” Then “Pliers!” When he heard “Sledgehammer!” the young man burst into the examination room and shrieked, “Doctor, what’s wrong with her?” “We have no idea,” the doctor said. “Right now we’re still trying to open the medicine cabinet.” 3. Thought for the
month: There are three types of
people in this world: those who make things happen, those who watch things
happen and those who wonder what happened. We all have a choice. You can decide
which type of person you want to be. I have always chosen to be in the first
group. 4. Helpful
websites: Ever had your Pastor ask you to read
the Scripture and he tells you “it is Numbers chapter 13” and you look at all
those names and groan to yourself, “How in the world do you pronounce these
names?” Well, if you have, here is a website you will love. It has most of the
Bible names and actually pronounces each. Here it is: http://netministries.org/bbasics/bbwords.htm 5. Nazarene

News: There are many important things
happening at Rose Hill during the month of June. Your church board set aside
the last Sunday of June (every year) as a Friend Day in commemoration of our
church anniversary. This June 28th we are planning all kinds of
special music and events. After the morning service our men will have grilled
hamburgers and hot dogs and we are asking each family to bring their favorite
food items for a great dinner on the grounds day. Kristy is planning games for
us. Please mark this day on your calendar and invite your friends and family to
come and celebrate Friend Day with us. One of the great things Rose Hill is
known for is her support of World Missions. We will be taking our Faith Promise
pledges on June 14th. We ask that you be praying what God would have
you pledge for this next year. Please keep your current pledge until June
14th. I have heard it said by many: “You
know we have to cut back somewhere. Let’s see, we can’t cut back on our
mortgage, or our car payment or utilities or groceries or the credit cards…what
can we cut back on? Oh, yes, we can cut back on what we give to the church.
They won’t come after me.” Folks, I hope that is not your thinking. As we
enter these last days, I don’t see things improving very soon. I want to
encourage you not to cut back on what you give to God and His church. He is the
One who blesses us and gives us what we have. Take a few minutes and re-read
Malachi 3:10 to see what God has promised to those who bring in His tithes and
offerings! What an awesome promise! June 21st we will be
honoring our fathers. We will have a special gift for 6 fathers. I hope all
our fathers will make the effort to be here as we honor each one. We will also
be taking the World Broadcast offering on this day.
Rose Hill birthdays include:
Anniversaries include: Robert &
Nancy Siegler (14th), Greg & Cynthia Hayes (15th), OD
& Don’t forget the ladies’ Bible study
that meets on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM and the men’s prayer breakfast that meets on
the third Saturday at 8:00AM. The first Sunday of June, the
7th will be the monthly Sunday School breakfast starting at 9:00 AM.
Hope you will come with a good appetite. Our cooks do a wonderful
job. At the present we have 3 regular
small groups that meet. Charles Casey leads one at the church on Sundays at
5:00 PM; Be sure and check out our website at

Feedback: Your response to the Rose Hill
Herald is always welcome as well as any suggestions, articles or links you would
like to submit. Thank
