Pastor’s thoughts: Lots of thoughts are running through my mind as I begin writing this month’s Herald to you. We have had so many who have been sick this past month with colds, bronchitis, flu and stomach flu. Then we watch the news and see how so many have lost so much of their 401K savings/retirement plans; many have lost their jobs and others wonder how secure their own jobs are. I watched our President’s State of the Union address last Tuesday and I thought to myself, “What an awesome responsibility rests on his shoulders.” Folks, we need to lift our President and other leaders up in prayer on a daily basis. I am reminded of the words God said to Solomon after the Temple had been dedicated: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sins and will heal their land” (2 Chron. 7:14). It seems so simple, but yet for so many it is so difficult! No question in my mind that we are in the “last days.” I have challenged your church board to select one un-churched person and pray for him/her, spend some time with, take out to lunch, and do their very best to get them into church and see them saved. What would happen at the Rose Hill Church of the Nazarene if each member would take that challenge and meet it? First off, we would see souls won, our attendance doubled, and tithes and offerings increase. To whom much is given, much is expected -Luke 12:48. Jesus left Heaven and made His dwelling among us. He gave His all, including His very life for you and me. We have received the greatest gift available – His life! Someday, we will have to give an accounting! Will you take the challenge and select one un-churched person and do your best to win them for Jesus this year? 2. Laugh a little: One day a man came home from work to find total mayhem at home. The kids were outside still in their pajamas playing in the mud. There were empty food boxes and wrappers all around. Entering the house, he found an even bigger mess. Dishes on the counter, dog food spilled on the floor, a broken glass under the table, and a small pile of sand by the back door. The family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing, and a lamp had been knocked over. He headed up the stairs, stepping over toys to look for his wife. He was becoming worried that she may be ill, or that something had happened to her. He found her in the bedroom, still in bed with her pajamas on, reading a book. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, “What happened here today?” She again smiled and answered, “You know every day when you come home from work and ask me what I did today?” “Yes,” he replied. She answered, “Well, today I didn’t do it!” ----- A big time celebrity was doing a benefit at the senior citizen’s home. He went up to one of the elderly ladies, sat down beside her, and said, “Do you know who I am?” She said, “No, but go to the front desk. They’ll tell you who you are.” 3. Thought for the month: Let me say it again: The single greatest gift you can give to others is an introduction to the God who asked his Son to go the unthinkable distance to redeem them.” Bill Hybels 4. Helpful Websites: I ran across a wonderful (free) tool that my secretary and I are using on our computers. It is called “Rainlendar.” It is an excellent desktop calendar that you can put appointments on and they show up on you desktop. There is even an alarm that you can set which will go off before the appointment. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/Rainlendar.html 5. We are planning an “indoor church” workday on Saturday at 8:00 A.M. on March 14th. We plan on getting a lot of much needed painting done, especially the fellowship hall, and other spring cleaning type things. We will have a job for everyone who comes. Lunch will be provided. Trust you will come and help. Prime Timer’s will have a potluck lunch at noon, Thursday the 19th. If you are 55 and over you qualify. Come and be a part of this fun group. Ladies’ Bible Study is every Tuesday at 10:00A.M. The men’s prayer breakfast is scheduled for the third Saturday at 8:00A.M. . April is the Holiness Today Subscription month and the price is still only $12 a month. Rose Hill birthday’s include: Betty Christian (4th), McKenzie Siegler (8th), Mark Burnett (14th), Melissa Watson (16th), Ken Davis & Laurie Skillern (19th), Charles Casey (23rd), Norma Neukam (26th), Lynda Davis (27th) and Taylor Case (30th). Anniversaries include: Larry & Sandy Furrer (15th), Charles & Nancy Casey (21st) and Rance & Lessie Curtis (28th). If we have overlooked your birthday or anniversary, we apologize and ask that you please bring it to our attention. My prayer is that all of our Rose Hill folks who have been sick will receive healing and be back to normalcy. It has been a rough month for many. Your Feedback: Your response to the Rose Hill Herald newsletter is always welcome as well as any suggestions, articles or links you would like to submit. Thank you Pastor Steve Comeans | |
