Rose Hill Herald October
1, 2010 – Volume 4, Issue 10 1. Pastor’s
thoughts I recently received an interesting
summation of possible future changing events from a childhood friend now a
pastor and wanted to share them with you: Whether these changes are good or bad
depends in part on how we adapt to them. But, ready or not, here they
come! 9. Privacy. If there ever was a concept
that we can look back on nostalgically, it would be privacy. That's gone. It's
been gone for a long time anyway. Try Google search on your name and see how
much information is available‚ you will be appalled. There are cameras on
the street, in most of the buildings, and even built into your computer and
cell phone. But you can be sure that 24/7, "They" know who you are and where
you are, right down to the GPS coordinates, and the Google Street View. If you
buy something, your habit is put into a zillion profiles, and your ads will
change to reflect those habits. And "They" will try to get you to buy something
else. Again and again! 2. Something to think
about: “Some
people give God a tenth – a tenth of what they ought to
give.” “We are
only rich through what we give, and poor only through what we
keep.” “Your
use of money shows what you think of God.” “When
giving to God, we are just taking our hands off what belongs to
Him.” “Don’t
try to cheat the Lord and call it economizing.” “God has
enough money in the pockets of Christians to do everything he expects
the church
to do.” 3. “A
cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones”
(Proverbs
17:22 NIV) A man and his
wife were walking in a crowd. The husband delighted his wife by taking her
hand. She asked, “You don’t want to lose me?” He replied, “I don’t want to
have to look for you.” “I’m really
worried,” said one little boy to a friend. “Dad slaves away at his job so I’ll
never want for anything, so I’ll be able to go to a university if I want to.
Mom works hard every day washing and ironing, cleaning up after me, taking care
of me when I get sick. They spend every day of their lives working just on my
behalf. I’m worried.” His friend asked, “What have you got to worry about?’
And he replied, “I’m afraid they might try to
escape.” A little boy
had developed a bad habit. He was always lying. Once when he was given a St.
Bernard dog for his birthday, he went out and told all the neighbors that he had
been given a lion. The mother took him aside and said, “I told you not to lie.
You march right upstairs and tell God you’re sorry. Promise God you will not lie
again.” The little boy went upstairs, said his prayers, then came down again.
His mother asked, “Did you tell God you are sorry?” The little boy replied,
“Yes, I did. And God said sometimes he finds it hard to tell my dog from a lion
too.” There was an
elderly lady who said to a little girl, “How do you do my dear?” The girl
replied, “Quite well, thank you.” After a long pause the woman asked, “Why
don’t you ask me how I am?” The child paused and said calmly, “Because, I’m not
interested.” 4. Nazarene
