1. Pastor’s thoughts:

The last two Sundays have been very good ones.  2 weeks ago the Spirit of God was so evident.  After the morning sermon and I opened the altar 9 people came forward to receive help from the Lord.  What a refreshing time!  Last Sunday we took in 4 new members by profession of faith.  They included: John Orgler, Angela Marshall, Megan Marshall and Jonathan Marshall.  What a wonderful addition to our Rose Hill family.  At our Church/SS board retreat the members have accepted the challenge to fast and pray for Rose Hill, and I believe it is already paying dividends.  I am reminded of what God told Solomon: “If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).  I want to encourage you to pick up the challenge and make a commitment to God that you will fast at least one meal a week and pray for our unsaved loved ones.  That includes family, friends, neighbors, and our peers at work and school.  James reminds us, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous “person” availeth much” (James 5:16b)

2. Laugh a little

It was nearly a –hundred-degrees Fahrenheit inside the little church in West Virginia.  The summer sing-along was just getting started when a visitor stood up and made his way back to the church’s lone usher.  He whispered, “Excuse me, it’s a little stuffy in here.  Would you be so kind as to turn down the air conditioner just a bit?  The usher stood tall in his new Harley Davidson T-shirt, “Not a problem.”  The man thanked him and made his way up the center aisle to sit with his wife, Gladys.

The sing-along was well into its sixth special by the ladies’ trio from the Assemblies of God church, when the visitor stood up and made his way back up the aisle to the usher in the Harley Davidson T-shirt.  “Excuse me, my wife, Gladys, said she just about got a chill.  Would you be so kind as to readjust the air conditioner?  Several trips up and down the aisle later, the ladies’ trio ran out of accompaniment tracks, so the sing-along ended.  As the visitor and his wife, Gladys, left the church he thanked the usher and headed out the door.  The custodian went over to the usher and asked him what all that back and forth up the aisle stuff was all about.  “He wanted to thank me about the air conditioning.  I just didn’t have the heart to tell him we ain’t got one.”

A middle-aged preacher had just taken a new church in another state.  Once he was settled in, he decided to join a local civic organization.  The organization’s president was happy to greet the minister, but she told the minister that she had some bad news.
”We only take one person from each vocation in our group, Reverend.”  She said, “And we already have a minister.  As a matter of fact, every vocation in this community is represented in our group right now, with the exception of a hog caller.”  She embarrassingly asked the next question, “Would you mind being a hog caller among us?”  “Well,” said the pastor, “where I come from I’m considered a ‘shepherd,’ but I suppose you know your people better than I do.”

3. Thought for the month:

Consider the postage stamp;
its usefulness consists in the ability to stick to one thing until it gets there.

4. Helpful websites:

Beverly Eshliman shared with me that when you are in doctor’s offices or the hospital and have computer access that a good website is “www.pogo.com   for lots of free games.  After looking at the site, there are, indeed, a lot of games you can play for free.

I wanted to remind you again of Crosswalk radio.  It is available 24 hours a day and you can choose the type of Christian music you want to listen to, be it Southern Gospel, Praise, Christian Rock or hymns.  It is free.  Here is the website: http://www.crosswalkradio.com/Registration/?ReturnUrl=%2fMusic%2fDefault.aspx

6. Rose Hill news:

Your Church and Sunday School boards met August 15th for our annual retreat for a time of devotion, prayer and planning.  We had a wonderful time together and felt the presence of the Lord in our meeting.  Each member has committed to fasting at least one meal a week and spending some serious time in prayer praying for the lost, which includes family members, neighbors, friends, and peers at work and school.   As we look at what is happening in our world, our country, our state and our cities, we all know that we are definitely in the last days.  Jesus is coming soon!  The early church used to greet each other and bid farewell by saying “Maranatha!”  Come soon Lord Jesus!  We want all of our family and friends to make the trip to be with Jesus.  We are committed to doing whatever it takes to bring as many to heaven with us as possible!

Back in May, we made a temporary change to our Sunday School and morning worship times, setting them back 45 minutes in hope of enabling more to come to Sunday School.  After reviewing and sharing thoughts we came to the conclusion that the time change has not helped our attendance to grow.  So after discussion, a motion was made, seconded and carried unanimously to move the time back.  So effective September 6th, Sunday School will be at 9:00 AM and morning worship at 10:00 AM.  Due to Sept. 6th falling on  the last 3 day weekend, the Sunday School will NOT be having the monthly breakfast on that day.  We will re-start the breakfast on October 4th.

We will be hosting Papa New Guiana missionary Rebecca Morsch Wednesday evening on Sept. 23rd at 7:00 PM.  She will be speaking to us about Papa New Guiana, showing pictures and we will have a time of food and fellowship after the service in the fellowship hall.  We would ask that you please bring finger foods this night.

Ladies’ Bible Study meets each Tuesday at 10:00AM at the church.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast is the third Saturday of each month at 8:00 AM.

Prime Timer’s potluck supper is the first Thursday of the month at 6:30PM

Prime Timer’s potluck lunch is the third Thursday at noon.

At the present, we have two small groups that are meeting.  The tribe of faith meets at the parsonage Mondays at 6:30PM (they will not meet Sept. 7th due to Labor Day); the other group meets at the Bratton’s home on Thursdays at 7:00 PM.

If you would like to host a small group at your home, please contact the pastor.

Time is rushing by so quickly.  Already Donna is preparing for the annual Christmas cantata and the children’s department is planning on their annual Christmas program.  If you have thought about joining the choir, now would be an excellent time.  The choir meets on the last and first Wednesdays of each month at 6:00 PM.
